I know I am a bit late to the party with my favorites, but I will be completely honest here: in the beginning of 2015, my makeup game was waaaay different than it is now and I used to own a lot less, so you can say that I have discovered a lot of favorites in the last 3 months so in a way I am sort of cheating. But let’s not get you bored over here, let’s get going.
Maybelline Fit Me Concealer in Sand
Before this year, I was all about my Collection Lasting Perfection, but since trying this concealer, I am converted. This is such a creamy formula, a little goes a long way and also the colour Sand is absolutely perfect for me, as I use it to highlight my under eye area together with my Urban Decay Naked Skin concealer. Also did I mention that this is only 5.99? And you can usually find it in an offer, such as buy one get 2nd half off or something similar. Definitely a massive winner for me!
Benefit Erase paste in Medium
As an olive skin girl with really dark blue purple greenish I find it difficult to hide my dark circles without a corrector, and I have found that this one to be the best one so far. I personally use a flat concealer brush to apply this all over and then use either my Real Techniques sponge or my fingers in to really blend it in. I find that it cancels out all the unwanted 50 shades of darkness and it really creates a smooth base for a highlighting type of concealer. This is already my second pot and I have to say that it lasts me for at least a year!
Essence Matte Blush in 20 Berry Me Up
This has been an unexpected find. I mean, a £2.50 blush? Yes, and it’s probably one of the most beautiful colours that I have ever tried on my cheeks, a very subtle matte dusty rose that goes with any and all eye looks. Also this is great for your no makeup day if you just want to throw a concealer on and a lip balm, but you don’t want to be too pale and need a bit of a flush. I am definitely planning to try more shades in this range ASAP. If you want to get your hands on this, try your local Wilko, as they have quite a large range. Or, if you’re in the US, you can find Essence at Ulta.
Real Techniques Contour Brush from the Core Collection Kit
This brush has changed my contour game! Unfortunately you cannot buy it individually, however I definitely recommend the entire kit, as they are all great face brushes. The reason why I love this brush is because it works perfectly with my contour skills- aka no skills. I can use it with quite a light hand, as well as apply a bit more product and then blend it. Also when I feel extra lazy, I use this to set my under eye area and other smaller areas. It’s quite tapered, yet still dense and so far my best contour brush yet!
When the holiday kits came out, I had my eyes on this Opal mini that came with this as well as a liquid version so I had to get it. Best decision ever! I have never been more glowy or luminous from within as with this on! I use it on my upper cheek, tip of my nose, as well as my cupid bow. I want to try Champagne Pop also (they just made it permanent wohoo!), however meanwhile I will still be super happy to continue using this one, as it’s a great product and lasts for a really long time. I have been using it every single day and still it doesn’t have a dent in it.
I have already written a full review on this, which you can find here, but in case you haven’t seen it, go check it out and then go buy this! This is such amazing quality for less than half the price of an Urban Decay or Too Faced palette and it has the perfect mix of matte and shimmery shades to create warm toned, beautiful looks. Also it’s the kind of palette that can easily take you from daytime to nightime. Also check out Zoeva’s brushes if you’re already there, as they’re amaaaazing!
Lancome Hypnose Drama Mascara in Excessive Black
Like most people, I have tried so many mascaras and so many times I’ve been like meh. However, with the Hypnose Drama, I always see a dramatic improvement (no pun intended ha) in my lashes even after one layer- and most for most of the time, I do one layer only. I use my Shu Uemura curler before hand and I find that this holds the curl as well as lengthen which is quite rare, plus it never smudges on me, which is great. Overall, totally worth the price tag! (oh and you can usually find it in a set with a makeup remover or an eyeliner so you never have to pay retail price!)
Nyx Slide on Pencil in all colours
I am not much of an eyeliner person (besides liquid) unless I am going for a really heavy eye look, which I’m usually not, so my only expectations are : to glide on easily aka not tug at my eye, not to smudge and good pigmentation. Yet most liners that I ever tried failed at at least one of those. However, Nyx seems to have created a perfect combination. Also this is safe to use in your waterline and it lasts pretty well but for it to last all day, I would suggest setting it with a black eyeshadow Also have I mentioned that they have 15 different colours?
Maybelline Creamy Matte Lipstick in all colours
I have fallen in love with these ones before I even got my hands on them, as they’ve been released in the US long before they arrived in the UK. Even though in the UK, they have only released six shades out of the 20 or so that they have in the UK, I have managed to get my favorite from the US also, and I have to say that their formula is so opaque and hydrating for a matte lipstick! My favorite colours from the range are Touch of Spice, Rich Ruby and Divine Wine.
Too Faced Melted Liquid Lipstick in all colours
The other formula that I was incredible impressed with this year are Too Faced’s Melted lippies. They have a great range of colours and constantly coming out with different finishes and shades so you can never get bored. Also, as they are liquid, they glide on so easily and create a really stunning initially glossy, then slightly more matte finish. I have at the moment 4 minis, as I prefer to try different colours (and I never finish any lipsticks) but I think soon I will buy Melted Chihuahua, as well as two of the new Melted Chocolate range, as they look so appealing.
Secret Garden Coloring book by Johanna Basford
This year I really got into coloring books so much and this has been the first one that I picked up and my absolute favourite! It has such beautiful intricate designs that you could spend hours on, with little secret animals and plants hidden in each of them. Also I love that the pages are really thick and good quality so even when you use coloured fineliners, the colour won’t bleed on the other side of the page. Overall, a great way to spend your pastime especially while watching a movie or simply when you’re stressed or you need your mind to just chill down. Strongly recommend trying them out yourselves!
