Skincare has been a very important part of my life as soon as I started wearing makeup. It is impossible for me to understand how some people can sleep with makeup on, or generally not look after their skin. My motto: ‘you got only one face!’ so you don’t want to be looking back 20 years from now wondering you would have used that serum or used more sunscreen. Prevention is key!
Make up removers: The first products that I want to talk about are actually the only ones that I do not have a photos of, as I’ve just finished mine and need to order new ones. The first one is Bioderma Hydrabio Micellaire Solution in the blue version, which is a bit more hydrating than the original one (absolute holy grail!). I literally swear by it, as it removes everything, it’s gentle to the skin and you can literally put it in your eyes and it doesn’t sting at all (I can’t be the only one that does that). So run to your nearest pharmacy or go on Amazon and get this one- it’s the absolute BEST. If you do not have access to this, my second favorite is Sephora Waterproof Eye Makeup Remover – which is a double phase remover so you have to shake it before use- it has an oily consistency and removes even the most stubborn waterproof mascara.
Next- on to cleansing. My skin is mostly dry however lately has been acting a bit strange and is more combination, which is why I switched up products to something a bit… rougher, the kind that make your face feel squeaky clean.
After using a makeup remover, I use an oil based cleanser as the first part of my double cleansing routine (Thank you Korea for that!). My personal favorite is Super Facialist Renew Cleansing Oil (which by the way is now on sale at Boots for only £5.49- absolute steal!) I rub this all over my dry face and I love feeling how it breaks up the rest of remaining makeup- such a satisfying feeling!
Next I go in with my Vichy Normaderm 3 in 1 cleanser which acts as an exfoliator, cleanser and mask at the same time. Also it claims that you can actually apply it as a mask for 5-10 minutes, but I haven’t done that yet and I somehow feel like it would be a massive waste of product, as it already does a great job for my face.
Twice a week I also use a gentle exfoliator, also from Super Facialist, their Rose Hydrator Facial Scrub which has very gentle particles, so it will still strip a layer of your skin, but it will not feel as if your face is being violated if that makes sense.
Toner! I LOVE La Roche Posay Clarifying Lotion and have been using it for almost 2 years and I see no reason why I will change it anytime soon (but again never say never- might try the Pixi Glow Toner!). I use it with a cotton pad mostly on my t-zone (even when my skin is more dry than combination) and I can almost FEEL my pores disappearing and my skin feels smooth and at its cleanest. I would recommend this to anyone who does not have an incredible sensitive skin, as this is not necessarily the most gentle lotion out there. For sensitive skin, I recommend Lancome Tonique Confort which is my emergency toner if my skin feels sad and dehydrated. It’s very gentle and it’s probably the only toner that I have ever used which almost makes me feel as if I’ve put moisturizer on.
I always used to use moisturizer on its own, however for the last few months, I have been converted to using a serum beforehand and it has made all the difference. I thought I would mention two products as they are both very good and I strongly recommend them. The first one is Super Facialist Vitamin C Serum which is a brightening serum. It absorbs very quickly in the skin and allows the moisturizer to get in all the right places
The next serum that I wanted to mention, which is the one that I currently am using, as I have a sample from a magazine (check out my post to see where you can get it) and so far I am quite impressed. When putting it on, you are necessarily going to be blown away, as it feels like most serums: not too hydrating, not drying, more like… just there. But let me tell you: my skin has been AMAZING since I started using this and I have had no breakouts or any other kind of trouble, so I am officially converted to what must be one of the most popular cult beauty products ever!
Eye cream- I used to use Kiehl’s before – both their avocado one as well as their midnight recovery one. They are both okay, but I just haven’t felt that they were good enough for me to repurchase either of them. Currently I am using Emu Oil Moisturizing Cream which I randomly found on Feel Unique and had great reviews so I was like: why not? So far it’s been.. okay but not really my holy grail yet. Still searching for something that can make a difference to my dark circles, even though I am starting to give up.
Face Cream- Again, I am using a sample which I got from L’Occitane, which is their Perfecting Cream. I have been using it for the last few weeks and I LOVE IT. Again, I think this is part of the reason why my face has been acting so well and I plan on purchasing the full size as soon as this one is done. Also I am very tempted to buy the matching serum, as I tried it in the shop and it felt quite thick and luminous. I will let you know if I do!
My emergency cream for when my face is super dry is Lancome Neurocalm– such a good cream which I strongly recommend to anyone with dry and/or sensitive skin. I got their travel kit from the airport which included this cream, the toner that I talked about before and a makeup remover. And all three for only £20 so definitely worth it!
Last but not least, MASKS!!
I love a good mask. I could wear one all the time and I love trying new ones.
The one that I am currently on to is the Barefaced Mud Mask, which is sooo good. It dries out on the skin and after having it on for only 10 minutes, my skin feels brand new. I like to use this before bed and I recommend it a million times to everyone!
Now this last product is a bit of a special one. These are clay powder pouches which my mom sends to me regularly from Romania. My favorite type of masks are the deep, cleansing, getting into your pores types, so this one, mixed with water or apple cider vinegar, leaves my the skin again, brand new. You can only find them here (in Romania only unfortunately) however I feel that a good replacement would be the Aztec Healing Clay which is only £8.95 ad will last you forever.
So here you have: my current skincare routine. Let me know what you are currently using and if you have any holy grail products that you would recommend!
